Varun Saraf is a third-generation hotelier and real estate developer. A graduate of Tufts University with majors in Economics, Political Science, and Philosophy, Varun returned to India in 2006 to join the family’s hospitality business, marking the beginning of a transformative journey that has spanned nearly two decades.
His early years were defined by the establishment of Chartered Hotels, envisioned as a platform to develop mid-market hotels across India’s tier-II cities through greenfield development. Today, Chartered Hotels—now a subsidiary of Juniper Hotels—operates successful properties in Hampi, Raipur, and Lucknow, collectively offering 450 keys across multiple Hyatt brands. Varun is now shaping the project development and asset management verticals at Juniper Hotels forging the new chapter for the company.

Under Varun’s leadership, Juniper Hotels Limited achieved a significant milestone by going public last year, marking a defining moment in its evolution. The company has now embarked on an ambitious and forward-looking expansion phase—Juniper 2.0—designed to reinforce its position as a leading hospitality owner and developer in India. His forward-looking vision is to build hotels that set new benchmarks in guest experience, design, environmental responsibility, and long-term value creation.
A key pillar of this strategy is the accelerated growth of the company’s asset base. The development pipeline now includes both greenfield and brownfield projects. Together, these expansions will elevate the company’s portfolio to over 4,000 keys by FY29, positioning Juniper Hotels among the most formidable hospitality owners & developers in the country.
